JASON ENGELBART
ABOUT THE WORK CYCLE BAROQUE PASSION … Baroque forms of expression are not only found in the art of the 17th century, but also in the work of the contemporary artist Jason Engelbart.Engelbart‘s artistic work is based on the search for the divine, the perfect moment of love in fullness. It is precisely these sacred values that he traces in the sacred to opulent works of Baroque painting - such as those by Johannes Zick, Andrea Pozzo or Guido Reni. It is precisely these sacred values that he traces in the sacred to opulent works of Baroque painting - such as those by Johannes Zick, Andrea Pozzo or Guido Reni. Using his own digital painting technique, Engelbart abstracts selected works from this epoch by superimposing, blurring, overpainting and rearranging the various pictorial elements. With their fine contrasts in light, colour and form, Engelbart‘s abstract neo paintings are reminiscent of the opulent ceiling frescoes and sacred motifs of the Baroque art epoch. In the painting process, his own flowing structures and pictorial rhythms emerge, which constitute the modern characteristic look of his works and at the same time lift the underlying historical works into a new dimension of perception. In sum, colour and form transform into a single aesthetic-abstract event that is experienced on a purely emotional level as a sacred moment. With this skilful re-enactment of baroque icons, Engelbart builds a finely balanced bridge to contemporary art and very subtly creates déjà vu in the viewer.Jason Engelbart, born in 1960, lives and works in Hamburg. The signature aesthetic of his abstract works, the so-called „Neo Paintings“, can be admired regularly at national and international exhibitions such as the Amory Art Week New York, Art Basel Miami or the Swiss Art Expo Zurich. His work has been honoured with numerous international awards.
