Artist Statement
Artist StatementConstantly experimenting with new ideas for the use of materials and surfaces to work with, in the search for a meaningful, yet instantly recognisable form of visual dialogue. The subject matter and materials used are an articulation of an emerging form of expression that is developed from gestural marks whilst drawing. Preliminary work and sketches are sometimes revisited and worked into for a painting, perhaps collaged or digitally manipulated to continue an exploration. The seasons witnessed by landscapes and cityscapes offer an ever changing backdrop upon which to project a plethora of ideas. Exploring new avenues and possibilities, plunging into the waters of infinite opportunity is what drives much of my work.BioSelf taught artist who grew up in the Bohemian Sixties Camden. An Ambassador for the charity Outside In, I am part of a group of volunteers for the charity, to have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. My working week tends to involve dividing time between being out sketching and drawing or alternatively working on projects in the studio. An exhibiting artist with work selling in countries across the world, I also work on some commissions throughout the year. I have a continuing artistic involvement in environmental projects and shows. I write a regular art blog and maintain a good social media presence. The project open call grabbed my attention as I have had some experience of working within the wine industry in a variety of capacities. I found the brief interesting and wanted to submit to it to be part of world that I continue to enjoy.
Bio
Self taught artist who grew up in the Bohemian Sixties Camden. An Ambassador for the charity Outside In, I am part of a group of volunteers for the charity, to have been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. My time is divided between being out in the landscape and back at my small studio. I value the importance of being out walking and sketching along the rivers and hills in South Devon throughout the year. A rendezvous with each of the Seasons as they come and go.I am sometimes wrapped up or conversely with a parasol. There are brief encounters with the passing, inquisitive walkers, however being in the landscape is what it is all about for me.
