Description
This piece presents a vibrant, almost neon interpretation of a black peony, asserting its presence through bold, artificial color. The flower is intersected by horizontal barbed wire, rendered in an equally artificial green. This juxtaposition of a traditionally beautiful, organic form with industrial, restrictive elements creates a powerful tension. The overall hyper-saturated palette contributes to a sense of digital manipulation and a modern, perhaps unsettling, beauty, suggesting themes of accessibility, protection, or the artificiality of the natural world as reproduced by humans.

My work explores the tension between beauty and boundaries—between nature’s exuberant expression and the systems that seek to contain, conceal, or define it. In my Pivoines and Peonies series, I reimagine the classical peony—an enduring symbol of femininity, sensuality, and transience—through a bold digital lens that both reveals and disrupts. These works are not mere floral portraits, but layered terrains where memory, identity, and resistance intersect.
Through digital collage, saturated color, and compositional fragmentation, I fuse organic and artificial elements to evoke a visceral tension between allure and discomfort. Stylized human forms merge with botanical repetition, while mesh grids, barbed motifs, and neon hues act as conceptual veils—both seductive and obstructive. These visual interventions mirror emotional and cultural constraints, transforming the floral form into a metaphor for vulnerability under pressure, and beauty as both shield and site of struggle.
Ultimately, my practice resists erasure and conformity. It is a celebration of complexity—where nature and artifice, fragility and defiance, coexist in vibrant, unruly harmony.
