Description
I often take inspiration just going around the city where I live. This is a street with a taco restaurant and a nice outdoor patio. It's wonderful how paint can transform a neighborhood restaurant into a piece of art. Sometimes you never know when an image is going to inspire you until it's staring you in the face. I captured a photo of this image on my phone just as the sun was setting, and then I used the image for the painting rendering. I love how the string lights remind me of Van Gogh's "Cafe Terrace at Night". As such, I decided to create this painting in a looser style, similar to Van Gogh. I really enjoy how nocturne pieces such as these allow you to appreciate more contrast between dark and light.
The original painting is 12" x 16", and has hanging wire installed in the back.

I paint to share the joyful visions in my mind with others. My hope is to offer some reminders, in a whimsical colorful way of the delightful images that already surround us. In a nutshell, I paint because I enjoy the process of getting lost in color and form, but I also create in order to bring other people joy. The scenes which make me happiest are typically related to the ocean, and other scenes from my travels. Once in a while, I will surprise even myself, and will be called to paint subject
