Artist StatementPsychic Topographies: Opulent Inner Worlds as a Condensation of Biography, Desire, and Insight“I paint psychic topographies. For me, spaces are neither stage sets nor decorative interiors, but inner landscapes: structures in which biography, desire, protection, status, memory, and transformation settle and condense. My visual worlds move at the intersection of observation and imagination — full of energy, movement, and openness — and are less depictions of real places than distilled spaces of experience, projection surfaces of identity and collective conditioning.I am convinced: a room knows more about a person than any portrait. In my work, color is not surface but atmosphere. It settles over architecture and object like a mood, charging them, shifting their meaning. In an opulent, color-intense painting, furniture, patterns, curtains, wallpaper, and architectural fragments become a vocabulary of lived experience. What feels familiar — a table, a chair, a salon — tips in the next moment into a charged pictorial space in which order, excess, and irritation are present all at once.I build settings that glow and, at the same time, hold: inner worlds in which beauty does not soothe but generates presence — and in which empathy is not sentimental but earnest. For me, the act of painting is elemental, comparable to breathing: a rhythmic state into which I immerse myself. My themes are fed by a life in motion — by travel, changing places, ceaseless impressions, colors, scents, languages, spaces. This abundance of stimuli is not merely content; it becomes structure: optical conflicts appear as condensation, exaggeration, ornament, too much information, light too beautiful. I comment on a present in which we live simultaneously in excess and in exhaustion — and yet still long for beauty, humor, and a place of our own in which to belong.Within contemporary painting, I move deliberately between figuration and abstraction. My spaces remain legible, yet resist any single, unambiguous story. Their surfaces emerge from layering, reworking, and rhythmic gestures — painting as a form of thought, in which perception, emotion, and analysis lie one atop the other. What interests me is not to simplify complex inner worlds, but to bring them into form as radically and as pleasurably as possible. My wish is that we no longer read opulent inner worlds merely as status, but as energetic psychic landscapes in which desire, vitality, and inner freedom, overwhelm and belonging are all allowed to dwell at once. In my paintings, the opulent becomes not decorative but resonant: a space in which contradictions are made pleasurably visible and transformed into new energy — and in which something of ourselves can be found again.”
Bio
ARTIST BIOCurriculum Vitae — Stephanie BingRadically Her Own: Painting as a Way of LifeStephanie Bing (b. 1967 in Mannheim) took a path many admire — and few truly dare to take: she gave up the maximum professional security of a tenured civil-service career in order to devote herself entirely to autonomous artistic creation. For years, as a senior teacher (Studienrätin) and lecturer for the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Culture, she imparted visual literacy, an understanding of art, and artistic practice. But at some point, teaching was no longer enough. She did not simply want to explain how art works — she wanted to create, herself, the painterly spaces in which it works. This decisive break marks the beginning of her committed path as an independent artist.Bing’s painting rests on a rigorous education: she studied fine art, painting, photography, art history, German studies, and literature at the Johannes Gutenberg University and the Academy of Fine Arts in Mainz, completing her studies with distinction under, among others, Prof. Klaus Jürgen-Fischer and Prof. Dr. Vladimir Spacek. From this multilayered background she developed a contemporary visual language that unites classical skill with an intense sense of the present. Her works are color-intense, multilayered pictorial spaces in which inner worlds become visible as mental topographies. Layerings, condensations, and luminous fields of color read like cartographies of experience — atmospheric, dynamic, and at the same time precisely guided. Since 1991, her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including at formats such as the Venice International Art Fair, the Contemporary Art Fair in London, fair presentations in New York, Miami, and Paris, as well as at venues and projects such as SwissArt Expo (Zurich), Museo Arte e Scienza (Milan), and the Affordable Art Fair (Berlin). Her works are listed on established art platforms such as Artsy, Singulart, and Arte Laguna World, and find collectors worldwide.International awards, jury selections, and curated invitations have accompanied her development, as have solo exhibitions in Paris, Basel, and Frankfurt, and presentations on billboards at Times Square in New York. This visibility underscores her position in the international art market — carried by a painting that does not decorate, but opens up inner landscapes.Today, Stephanie Bing lives and works in Northern Hesse and on the Balearic Islands. She runs her own art gallery and showroom in Korbach and draws on her travels around the world as a continuous source of inspiration for new bodies of work.
