Description
Symbol Drift I: Bands of dark blue, dark green, and gold converge toward a central axis, creating a sense of focus and movement. The design’s symmetry is offset by its flowing forms, giving it both balance and vitality. Crisp, sleek edges and vivid, complex color relations combine with fluidly streamlined geometric forms to create a bold, eye-catching contemporary artwork that attracts and rewards attention.

My paintings explore the role of attention in a contemporary context, focusing on how a slow medium like painting works in a fast culture of relentless change. Artworks both demand and reward attention, but what counts as attention shifts over time. This is not only an issue of shortening attention spans, but also about the increased visual intake speeds that accompany long-term immersion in a hyperspeed, media-saturated information ecology. My paintings operate in this charged space, where fleeting focus meets accelerating information intake.
With these ideas in mind, my work repurposes and combines the immersive all-at-once immediacy sought by late modernist abstraction with the visually gripping, quick-read dynamism found in contemporary logos and the tabbed screenspaces of meme culture. My goal is to offer enough in-your-face visual terseness and aesthetic oomph to reward a passing glance, but with enough richness, surface tension, visual viscosity, and layered complexity to engage and reward those who choose to linger and look.
