Michael Porten

Bio Michael Porten is an accomplished interdisciplinary artist whose work ranges from paintings and sculptural work to installation. Based in Savannah, Georgia, Porten is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design where he earned his BFA in Illustration and MFA Painting . Porten’s works range in scale and scope and have been exhibited in galleries and venues nationally and around the globe, including New York City, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Hong Kong, and France. His unforgettable projects have been featured by New American Paintings, Oxford American Magazine, VH1, New Balance, Mercedes Benz Falcons Stadium and the Metropolis Magazine online edition. Artist StatementTo the extent my work is about a specific idea, I would say it is about exhausting the possible. By this I mean that I like to take an idea, explore its variations and combinations in sketches and on my computer, then push it through as many physical, painted, printed or sculpted variations as necessary until it reaches a state of maximum aesthetic density. The visual result of this exhaustive approach tends to be a series of repetitions. Not only do the individual artworks contain a lot of repetitious elements—patterns, variations of a form or color, and so on—but many times each painting unfolds into a series, with each possible arrangement or organization taken to different conclusions.
