Description

Batty Biker Family is a whimsical bat and bike sculpture located on the 138 mile long “Loop” pedestrian/bicycle path around the city of Tucson, AZ. Tandem Batty Biker Family is about 11 feet long and 7’9” high, with a wing span of approximately 8’. The sculpture is comprised of “daddy” in front, wings spread, in the act of catching a moth on his extended tongue; “mommy” in the middle, eyes averted and carrying a parasol, both riding a tandem bike; and “baby” on the 3rd wheel, hanging from the “ape hanger” handle bars while clutching a teddy bear. The sculpture is mounted on a 20’ long, 6” diameter schedule 40 pipe. The entire sculpture is fabricated of mild carbon steel including ¼ “ plate for the wheels, spokes and internal attachment supports, steel pipe of varying dimensions for the bike, large agricultural chain, and steel rod, sheet and perforated metal for the bats bodies and moth body.
