Story:

This is a re-edition, similar to a music remastering. I returned to the original scanned film I shot at Grey Glacier in 2002. Because I used reversal slide film and had a vivid blue sky, the glacier ice appeared even bluer in the images. What I’m sharing now is a more natural representation—closer to what my eyes actually saw.

At the time, I recorded the GPS location where I took these photos. Comparing it to current imagery on Google Earth, the spot where I stood with my tripod is now underwater—the glacier has retreated an astonishing 1,700 meters over the past two decades. A stark, real-world example of global warming.

I am a passionate photographer, blessed with curious eyes that are constantly amazed by the forms and designs produced by water, and the combination of its temperature and light. No matter how many pictures I take of the same shot, every time I witness a very different expression. My camera and I have been traveling around the world since 1977, registering its shapes and essence, which I have been sharing through large prints, as an homage to its abundance, fragility, and essential existence; trying to convey the feeling I had at the time of the capture, registering most of the time in color and sometimes in monochrome.
