Artist Statement

I am a London-based botanical artist and the founder of Art Inessa, where I create original botanical paintings, limited edition prints and bespoke commissions for collectors, interior designers and nature lovers who appreciate refined and meaningful art.My work is rooted in close observation of the natural world and the long tradition of botanical art. While scientific accuracy and technical precision form the foundation of every painting, I am equally interested in revealing the quiet emotions and subtle personalities that exist within plants. Through careful composition and an often anthropomorphic approach, I invite viewers to see familiar botanical subjects in unexpected ways, discovering character, humour, elegance and vulnerability in nature.Working primarily in watercolour, I strive to balance precision with atmosphere, creating paintings that encourage people to slow down, look closely and reconnect with the beauty that surrounds them. Travel, gardens and the changing seasons continually inspire my practice, providing endless opportunities to explore the diversity and resilience of the botanical world.I am a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, a member of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society and the Society of Botanical Artists. My work has been exhibited extensively across the UK and internationally, including at the Mall Galleries, Green & Stone and Chelsea Old Town Hall. My paintings are held in private collections throughout Europe, the USA and Australia.Alongside my studio practice, I am developing online painting programmes designed to help people slow down, reconnect with nature and experience the calm, focus and quiet joy that painting can bring into everyday life. I believe that botanical art is more than a way of recording plants; it is a way of paying attention. In a fast-moving world, the simple act of observing and painting nature becomes an invitation to be present, curious and deeply connected to the living world.
