Blue Bliss

Blue Bliss is an artist and designer who works with many traditional and digital mediums. In his digital paintings he works with his own photos of natural forms and cityscapes to explore the ways that abstractions of shape, light and shadow can evoke contemplative connection with the Mystery. He has collaborated on numerous large scale projects designing and creating murals for theme parks and displays, as well as animation and motion portraits for film, TV and video.

In my digital art, I begin with my own photos. They seem to have sorted themselves into two main themes: Nature and the City. When I prowl around looking for things to shoot, I’m always seeking beautiful patterns of form, light and shadow that intrigue me. Then when I start to work with a photo or collage, I explore and cultivate that sense of intrigue. I work totally intuitively, groping and experimenting through many layers of process. The feelings are like, “What if... getting warmer... getting colder... that works and now what if... oh that’s a surprise and now I’m going down a different rabbit hole!” What I’m going for usually ends in Infinity, as all things should. My experience working with scene and fabrication shops and theme parks and carnivals has informed my fascination with experiential design. I’m always striving to create imagery that can transport myself and others to other realms of fantasy, spirituality, communion, liminality, magic. I also love to collaborate with clients, exploring and designing custom themed imagery in any style to help create environments that are personally meaningful.
