I create art compulsively. I start with a photograph, and then alter the image digitally. The image goes through many evolutions, sometimes for more than a year, and often becoming more abstract throughout the journey. Only when a new subject catches my eye, can I move away from the prior one. The compulsion in creating artwork from one photograph for such long periods of time comes from sentiment, and from the building blocks of creativity. Each original image is connected to a place and time in the past that is both raw and treasured. The artworks become comforting lifelines. Creativity is also busy at work. Weeks after an artwork is created, a new technique will be discovered, and I am drawn to the same artwork to apply the technique, which then evolves it into its next transformation. The artworks are forever moving forwards, yet their ties to memories remain steadfast.
