Acrylic Abstract Painting Ceramicist Educator
Artist Statement
I am a multidisciplinary artist passionate about exploring the dynamics and beauty of nature's textures and colors which infuse my art with richness and movement and the complexity of line and tone. My use of a variety of art modalities is illustrative of my ceaseless awe of the exquisiteness of nature. I apply acrylic paints onto textured canvases to produce inspired abstract emotions and visions and abstract impression landscapes. The use of texture mediums and bold colors inspire and guide me as I replicate the inspiration for each piece I create.
Bio
Amy graduated with a BFA in Selected Studies through Syracuse University’s School for Visual and Performing Arts in 1978 studying studio arts, ceramics, and special education as well as attending the Special Education Masters Program at Widener University several years later. Amy utilized her studio arts and clay background to design and implement creative curriculum as a teacher of special needs students. She continued this work as the Supervisor for a day program for adults with cognitive and physical disabilities for several years and currently continues to teach pottery classes at several Adult Day Programs for special needs as well as holding clay workshops.Amy’s current work utilizes a multidisciplinary approach producing nature inspired clay vessels and most recently her exploration of acrylic abstract paintings on canvas. The beauty of nature’s colors and organic forms as well as music are her inspiration, focusing on textures on the clay surface as well as on a 2-D canvas. Painting on canvas allows a more in depth expression of emotions as she follows bold colors and brush strokes over a variety of textures to complete her vison.
