Description
This is a revamp of a 2015 painting—one of my fashion designs (from the 1980's) set against a background of the Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles, CA (using the cover of the “L.A. Times Sunday Magazine” from the late ‘80s as inspiration). Both versions feature free-flowing chiffon fabric pieces with serged edges sewn onto the canvas with gold beads at the shoulder and along the arm. Beads and crystal stars are also sewn onto the canvas. One of the newly-added elements is a clear plastic overlay on the blue gown, which changes color and design when viewpoint and lighting change. It was fashioned from a 3” wide transparent plastic belt from the Goodwill. I cut and placed the pieces in such a way that I was able to use the metal-reinforced belt notches as attachment points to the artwork canvas, using faceted Swarovski beads to anchor them to the artwork at those points (neckline and vertically along the sleeve on the right). I also covered the red streaks the model is standing on with red glitter foam to add even more sparkle and depth to the painting, and added an iridescent “planet” to the sky. The stars in this picture will twinkle as you move in the room and the chiffon pieces will flutter in the breeze!
MEDIA USED: Acrylics, star-shaped Swarovski AB crystals & other Swarovski crystals, faceted gold beads, gold leaf paint, chiffon fabric with sequin dots, holographic print fabric, transparent heavy plastic, glitter foam, and found objects, on stretched canvas.

Artist, fashion designer, belly dancer, I create whimsical, graphic, stylized, Asian-inspired, & embellished/jeweled interpretations of people, ethnic subjects, animals, still lifes. Art, like life, should sparkle!
From forever, I have existed for the unfolding of beauty—finding it, creating it, embracing it, buying it, wearing it, living in it, dancing it, drawing it. My work is an expression of style, which for me is all about being true to yourself, not just following trends. It’s about uniqueness and personal authenticity.
Creativity is woven into everything I do. Whether I’m singing, dancing, drawing, designing costumes, choosing an outfit to wear, or arranging my space, I’m always expressing myself. I got teased in high school (1960’s) because I wore a royal blue sweater with an emerald green skirt; I didn’t really get what all the fuss was about. I love vibrant colors, but I also often balance them with black, white, and bold geometric patterns, which bring balance to my work.
And I staunchly stand by what Dolly Parton said: “I never met a rhinestone I didn’t like.” My art sparkles—not just with rhinestones but with jewelry, beads, fabric, found objects, neon paint—anything shiny a magpie would pick up. I really just can’t help it.
My creations reflect the joy I find in life’s beauty and the confidence that comes from embracing individuality. Through color, pattern, and sparkle, I invite viewers to share in my celebration of style as a personal statement and creative adventure.
