Susan Penfold is an artist based in Adelaide, South Australia. She works predominantly in pastel, so using charcoal comes naturally to her. These life drawings explore the way the human form, with its lumps, bumps and odd bits, interact with different lighting. She is moved by the dynamic contrast between the structure of the human body, and its shape as illuminated - and the supporting props. Susan uses a variety of different approaches to create each work, all with the same underlying goal - to attempt to encapsulate the subtle intricacies of the human body's relationship with light.
