Description
Kingfishers over the River Ouse is a semi-abstract contemporary English landscape painting inspired by the river Ouse in Sussex and its kingfishers. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. This painting was made by building layers of oil paint over a blurred depiction of the river but hinting at the wildflowers, pink Himalayan balsam plants and trees on each side with a view to a bend in the river in the distance. Vertical layers of transparent paint plus the two kingfishers are layered over this to create the idea of a scene unfolding but fleetingly (which sightings of kingfishers tend to be). This is the 2nd in a series of liminal landscapes where I am using real places painted from memory which I felt were liminal – between spaces – ethereal and slightly magical. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang and comes with certificate of authenticity.

Gill Bustamante
Forest Row, UK
My name is Gill Bustamante and I paint large contemporary landscape and seascape paintings in oil on canvas. They are mostly inspired by the Sussex landscapes I see around me where I live. My painting style is a fusion of Impressionist, Semi-abstract, Art Nouveau and something I term ‘memory impressionism’. This is where I go walking somewhere rural, look at and absorb the things I see and experience, and then come home and try to capture an 'echo' of the place from memory, including any wildlife I may have seen. I completed a fine art degree in Brighton in 1983 and I have painted since I was three. It always makes me happy along with cake, bunnies, driving erratically, BBC 6 music and totally irreverent comedy. Website: www.gillbustamante.com
