Description

Economical / ly Justified: Cumulation of Origin

  • Soft Textile Sculpture
  • Mixed media: redesigned promotion bag, textiles
  • Size: 20 x 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 x 8 in)

A discussion of freedom and world regulations, questioning the definition of rules of origin.

The artwork was created by the inspiration and discussion of the regulation of trade (fashion) as well as the regulations for humans regarding identity and nationality, in contradiction to the cumulation of the identity of each person, as an individual with different interests, passions, background, and traditions during peace, wartime, and now/also climate change (climate refugees).

Exhibited in juried Art Shows & at Events.

(May 2, 2016) Curator’s Comments:

Economical Justified is appealing in its simplicity of sculptural form communicating a complex system.  The object appears to be a life vest because of the plastic surface- I’m unclear if the interior is a contrasting cloth or foam material?  But the printed text slyly manipulates our read on customs forms and other declarations in relation to the (economic) title.  The vest also puts forth a sense of an official- subconsciously by the documents as well as in the reference to official/municipal or police uniforms, and also in the graphic printing of “authority” beneath the red star.
