Huey Lewis and the News said it best: “It’s hip to be a square”. Representing sturdiness and strength, squares have also historically facilitated community gatherings, symbolizing equality, and, in many religions, indicated divinity. Squares also harness our attention: they can serve as literal frames, guiding the eye and distinguishing a precise focal point.
Squares are so much more than their 90 degree angles and four equal sides, and in this art competition, we want to explore how squares feature in Artrepreneur artists’ work. From retro bathroom tiling in a classic black and white to vivid geometric abstracts, we can’t wait to see your interpretation of this theme. Send us your SQUARES!

- Submit up to 5 works
- You can apply only ONCE to this Open Call
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Submissions from artists in every category will be accepted.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older.
- Submissions must be created by the applicant.
- You DO NOT need to create new works for this Open Call. You may have created submissions at any point during your artistic career.
- It is highly encouraged to provide a description of your work (including title and materials) along with your overall artist statement if you have not already added one to your profile.
Winners will be announced on Instagram, in our Newsletter, and on our Open Call Winners page approximately 4-5 weeks after the close of this Open Call. Please follow us at @artrepreneur_og.

Kate KellyI attended Syracuse University and majored in French Literature, an experience that inspired me to start my first blog, FauxFrench.
While my writing career was beginning to develop, I worked as an illustration agent at Morgan Gaynin Inc., a premiere boutique agency in New York. Ten happy years were spent dedicated to representing our artists and connecting them with high profile projects in publishing, advertising, editorial, and more.
Since then, I have used my talents in various capacities, including research, journalism, curation, and education. My personal career highlights include being published in VICE Magazine (print and online) and working directly with the Royal Collection Trust and historian Dr. Amanda Foreman to curate the 2019 Buckingham Palace Summer Open.
I am thrilled to dive back into the art world as a curator for Artrepreneur and couldn't be more excited to connect with the diverse talent that's represented here.
