OUT WEST celebrates the artists living and creating across the American West. We want to see what you’re making and the perspective you bring to your work.
There’s no single way to define art from the West. Your work doesn’t need to feature sweeping landscapes or feel traditionally “Western.” This call is about discovering the artists who call this part of the country home and getting to know the work being created there today.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome work across styles, subjects, and mediums, from abstract and contemporary pieces to photography, landscapes, figurative work, architecture, and artwork inspired by everyday life.
Whether the West shows up clearly in your work or is simply the place where you create, we’d love to see it.
All mediums and styles are welcome.

THE COMMERCIAL READY PROGRAM REQUIRES PRINTABLE FILES. If chosen for the Commercial Ready program, selling your work through this method will ultimately require that you provide high-resolution files of your artwork – files that will reproduce cleanly at large sizes. Please make sure that you can provide reproduction-quality files before submitting your work for consideration.

Judging Criteria
- Submit up to 10 works
- You can apply more than once to this Open Call
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- FREE FOR PRO MEMBERS
- Artist profiles will be reviewed and special consideration will be given to profiles that are filled out and complete.
- Artists of all categories can apply.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older.
- Submissions must be created by the applicant.
- It is highly encouraged to provide a description of your work (including materials & tools used) along with your overall artist statement to your profile.
WHAT WILL NOT WORK:
- Using Phone Cameras: While phone cameras have come a long way, they still may not provide the necessary resolution for large-scale prints. It's essential to use a professional-grade camera to capture your artwork.
- Poor Lighting: Proper lighting when capturing your artwork is crucial. Bad lighting can result in shadows, glare, or color distortions, all of which affect the true representation of your piece. Upscaling Low-Res Images: Simply enlarging a low-resolution image doesn't maintain quality. This can introduce pixelation or a blurred appearance.
- Over-Editing & Artifacts: Excessive editing, especially over-sharpening, can introduce artifacts or other visual disruptions, undermining the artwork's true essence.
- Blurriness: Clear, sharp files are vital. Blurry images, irrespective of their resolution, don't translate well when printed.
Recommendation: If your current captures of artwork don't meet these standards, invest in a high-resolution camera or engage with a professional photographer or reproduction studio. This ensures your art is documented in the finest detail, without compromises to quality.
Remember: By ensuring the clarity, color accuracy, and overall quality of your submissions, we aim to present artworks that stand as a testament to your talent and vision. Your dedication to quality will only enhance your reputation and the potential of your art in the commercial space.

Jurors
Masahito OnoMasahito Ono is a Japanese-born artist living and working in New York City. Ono creates installations, photographs and outer space projects that capture the transience of nature and human life. He endeavours to rediscover the questions of existence and culture by intertwining poetry, science, history and philosophy. Ono received his MFA from Parsons School of Design in 2015. Prior to relocating to New York, he was an international video journalist based in Asia. His works have been shown extensively around the world including: Unfinished Festival, Bucharest (2020, 22); Ars Electronica Festival, Linz (2020); Ford Foundation Live Gallery, New York (2019); 38th EVA International (Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art), Limerick, (2018); among many others. In 2020, Ono participated in an international art payload, Sojourner 2020, organized by MIT Media Lab Space Exploration Initiative, and delivered his three artworks to the International Space Station in Low-Earth Orbit. He also participated in another art project for the ISS between February 2022 and January 2023, and the project has returned to the earth in preparation for its future flight to the moon.
