PLEASE READ EACH PROGRAM CAREFULLY before applying. Any application with missing requirements will be disqualified. You WILL NOT be notified if your application is incomplete, so be sure that it includes all requested information and also adheres to the AIR rules below:

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant must be a current Artrepreneur Pro Member, and Pro Membership must be maintained throughout the Residency.
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older
  • Examples of your artwork or designs must have been created solely by the applicant
  • The applicant must hold the copyright to any work submitted

BEFORE BEGINNING THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

During the application process, you will be required to fill out a multi-part form with various items and information, which our curators will review in the selection process. While you may save your application before its completion, we suggest having all the necessary items ready before you begin the application.

The following items will be required for all applications. Please review the application page for any additional requirements.

  • Portfolio of Work
    • Artwork. You must provide at least three previously created works that show your talent and ability to create the art or designs requested for the specific AIR Program for which you are applying. Each work must be uploaded to Artrepreneur with a title, description, year created, and accurate category and subcategory included on the artwork’s page.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO CREATE NEW WORK FOR THIS APPLICATION.
    • Portfolio. You must create a portfolio of these works and provide the URL of the portfolio during the application process. You can create a portfolio from the Artwork Management area of your Dashboard.  Just select the works you want to include and click the “Add to Portfolio” button. We suggest using the title of the AIR program as your portfolio title. You may remove, replace, or add artwork to the portfolio at any time prior to the closing date of the program.

  • Artist Statement and Career Highlights
      • You must include a well-written artist statement on your profile page. Your artist statement will be part of the judging criteria. We also suggest adding any other relevant details to your profile, including your list of skills, location, and career highlights such as education, work history, gallery representation, awards received, and exhibition or publication featuring your work. While you won’t be judged on these details, they will help to give our curators a broader picture of you as an artist.
  • Letter of Intent
    • You will be asked to add a Letter of Intent that expresses your artistic goals and reason for wanting to participate in the AIR program. The Letter of Intent should include your artistic goals and reasons for wanting to participate. It will serve as a way for you to communicate your passion, creativity, and vision for your work.
  • Project Proposal
    • An AIR Project Proposal is a formal document that outlines your goals, vision, and objectives for the specific residency project. The proposal should serve as a roadmap for your creative process and to communicate your ideas. It should include details of what you intend to create for the program, such as the project concept, medium, style, sizes, number of works, intended audience, and desired outcomes. You should also include a suggested timeline for the project and how the stipend will be used.

IMPORTANT: The Letter of Intent and Project Proposal should each be no more than 600 words. You will be asked to paste the information into the text boxes as shown below

All submitted works must adhere to the Image Upload Guidelines. For more information on uploading artwork, filling out your profile, creating a portfolio, and customizing your URLs, please visit our Help Center

Once you have prepared the above materials, click the Apply Now button on the Artist-in-Residence landing page. Click here for details on the Submission steps. Five semi-finalists will be chosen within three weeks of the closing date. Winners will be notified shortly after the interview process.

SEMI-FINAL INTERVIEWS

  • Up to five applications will be chosen as semi-finalists.  Each Semi final applicant will sit for a video interview with one of our curators. This will be an opportunity to gauge the artist beyond what can be seen on paper and provide an opportunity to discuss potential changes or variations to the Project Proposals. It will also give the artist an opportunity to ask specific questions about the project.

WINNING ENTRY

  • The winning entry will be judged based on the accuracy of the information provided on the application as well as additional judging criteria, which can be found here
  • Each winner will work with our curatorial team to finalize the details of the project based on the Project Proposal submitted.
  • Compensation will be split into three or more payments during the term of the Residency. The Number of payments and the timeline for those payments will be determined based on the final Project Proposal.
  • Final Artwork must be provided in a high-resolution printable format.  The Curatorial Team will provide the sizes and resolutions necessary based on how the artwork will be used.

NOTE: Before the project begins, you will be required to sign an Agreement detailing the requirements and expectations for the project. Please find a sample of the Agreement here.
