This is an opportunity for you to showcase your skills and creative vision, and your proposal should include details about your artistic background, project concept, intended audience, and desired outcomes. A clear and concise proposal that aligns with the residency’s goals and expectations is crucial, demonstrating your passion and dedication to your craft while highlighting your ability to work collaboratively and adapt to new environments. To secure a residency opportunity, you should take the time to craft a compelling proposal that showcases your unique talents and creativity.

Letter of Intent

A letter of intent is a preliminary document that expresses interest in working together or exploring a potential opportunity. It is a written statement that conveys an artist’s interest in participating in the residency program. It should include the artist’s background, artistic goals, and reasons for wanting to participate. Overall, the letter of intent serves as a way for the artist to communicate their passion, creativity, and vision for their work, and how the residency program can help them achieve their artistic goals.

Project Proposal

An artist-in-residence project proposal is a formal document that outlines your goals, vision, and objectives for the specific residency project. The proposal should serve as a roadmap for your creative process and communicate your ideas. Is the outline reasonable within the program timeline? How is the stipend to be used over the course of the program? It should include details about your artistic practice, project concept, intended audience, and desired outcomes.

Documentation/Portfolio

Is the portfolio work properly documented? What is the resolution of the documentation, is there any pixelation that interferes with the clarity of the image? Does the photo (documentation) of the work accurately represent the work? Does the portfolio accurately support the project proposal?

Artist Statement

Is the goal or intention of the work clearly articulated and outlined? How is the goal/intention of the work achieved? What techniques, principles, elements, or materials are used to achieve this goal/intention?
